National Workplace Wellbeing Day 2018 Mars Ireland
Here in Mars Ireland, 90 Associates work together to bring some of the world’s best loved brands to the Irish market. As a leader in the food industry, wellness is extremely important to us and that starts with wellness of our Associates.
Mars Ireland and Workplace Wellbeing
Since Mars Ireland was established in 1983, we’ve always prided ourselves on our health and wellness offering. We support Associates and their families through offering healthcare, but wellness is about so much more than tackling sickness, it’s about supporting and fostering an environment that allows people to keep well and live well.
We offer regular Associate medical checks, fitness allowance and an employee assistance programme which supports Mars Associates and their families. Our open plan office encourages people to interact and all our desk are fully height adjustable to allow people to stand while working to support back health. Ultimately though, we’re very lucky to work with likeminded people who love to be active. Over the years we’ve enjoyed tag rugby, soccer and cycling together, but our current activity of choice is boxerise, a high tempo, great fun activity which runs each week in our office, so there’s no hiding! At any given time groups of our Associates are gearing up for some challenge or other, currently we’re ramping up to the IGBF charity fun run and the Wicklow 100, all in aid of good causes, allowing us to combine wellbeing with community involvement.
It’s hardly surprising though that in Mars Ireland, we’re foodies at heart. Our staff Canteen offers a wide variety of healthy options for Associates to choose, which supports our wellbeing. Fruit is available throughout the day, we have a hot lunch with salad bar for lunch and the highlight of our weekly routine is “Egg Thursday”, where Associates come together to enjoy a healthy high protein breakfast of eggs.
We’ve been involved in Workplace Wellbeing Day since 2015 but we’ve got a team of really passionate Associates who have decided to take it one step further this year and have planned an action packed programme of events for our Workplace Wellbeing Week. We’re hoping to cover body, mind and soul with something for everyone. Throughout the week we’ll have guest speakers on nutrition, mental wellbeing and the impact of screen time. Each Associate will have a personal ergonomic consultation, we’ll be running yoga and lunch time miles throughout the week and as a special “something for the weekend” we’ll have a barber and a nail technician in on Friday to encourage people to take a little time out.
